Action in Immediate Witness proposals
What is a AIW?
These are statements about a significant action, event or development in the world that needs immediate engagement action from UU member congregations and groups.

How are AIWs submitted to General Assembly?
An AIW must:
  • Pertain to an issue that requires immediate action
  • Call on UUA member congregations and groups to take specific meaningful action
  • Present an opportunity for member congregations to build partnership and/or act in solidarity with marginalized groups beyond and within the association
  • Be grounded in UU theology and practice
  • Be crafted in anti-oppressive and inclusive language that is conducive to justice
An AIW must not:
  • Duplicate a recent AIW
  • Be primarily focused on issues within the UU.

Additional description of the timing of presenting AIWs and the process for approval of AIWs is available here.

The final AIWs to be considered will have their final versions posted no later than June 15.

Proposed AIWs for 2022 GA
Seven  AIWs have been proposed for consideration as of 6-3-22 and summaries are available here:  www.uua.org/action/process/planning-aiw-ga
Note that this information is just a summary of the AIW language and purpose.
At GA itself, the Commission on Social Witness (CSW) will select up to three AIWs for consideration by the GA.  AIWs which are submitted for consideration will be voted on separately.  AIWs require a 2/3 majority vote to be affirmed.
Because of our connection with some of the proposers of the AIWs, we have the proposed language of a few of the AIWs for your review.  Note that these can be changed before they are finally voted on at GA.   And these are not recommendations by OR UU Voices for Justice.
